The day I will never forget - 09/01/09

My hubby was complaining feeling heartburn on his left chest for sometime and I asked him to go for checkup. The clinic doc then referred him to a specialist. The Doc (specialist) did ECG and Stress test and confirmed that there's nothing wrong with his heart. But for precaution, the doc suggested that my hubby undergo the angiogram test - a simple straighforward procedure to search for any blockage in the arteries. To which he agreed - better be safe then regret later right?

Admitted to the hospital for further testing - blood, urine xrays. Doc said that angio will be done the next day... around 10 or 11... He explained the procedure and make sure we understand. He even invited me to see the whole thing. I was very excited.

My hubby was scheduled for angiogram procedure around 10.30.. the nurse (a filipino male nurse) came by and explained again the what ifs etc2. Then he wheeled my hubby to the angio room. To my surprised he led me to the lounge. (I was thinking, hey.. the doc wants me to be inside the control room and see for myself if theres any blockage) but i just followed him and wait at the lounge.
10.30 - wheeled to the angio room
10.35 - waited at lounge
11.25 - I felt very uneasy.. and all of the sudden 'berderau darah'
11.26 - 'attention - code blue in angio room, code blue in angio room'. I heard someone annouced thru their PA speaker. Oh no.. nothing can describe the way i felt at the time... what is code blue anyway..?
11.30 - saw a lady doc running and chant - 'angio room.. angio room'. What the...?!
11.50 - The Doc called me and explained that they spotted 2 minor blockage, no need for balloning, medicine will do but after the dye was injected, my hubby's heartbeat become unstable, so he want to keep him at CCU overnight. I was like.. ok.. so that's what code blue is... or so i thought... (but i felt like the Doc didn't tell me everything.. he's not a good liar)
13.25- still havent met my hubby, the jaga was gentleman enough and went to look for my hubby.. he said my hubby is still in angio room. (what the ..? kenapa lama sangat. bukannya jauh CCU and angio room)
13.30 - Puan, suami puan dalam bilik ICU 105.. boleh masuk sekarang (eh ICU pulak, hmm tak kisah la.. Went to see my hubby, he looked terrible.. (something must have happened, he wasn't supposed to look like that, he was only on LA (local anesthetic) for goodness sake. His heartbeat was at 140 one minute then 80 the next second.. erk.. what's wrong?
14.00 - had to clear the room, move everything to the car, then waited at the lounge.. praying for the best.. no doctors around.. just wait for the next visiting hour... at 18.00 hours.. The longest 4 hours in my life...
18.00 - was the first to go in and meet my hubby.. He looked much better.. LEGA.. and he told me the story below.. (my hubby asked the filipino nurse what happened and what is code blue... i told him i heard code blue earlier)

After the Doc injected the dye and spotted the 2 blockage.. my hubby said he fell asleep..

But the nurse said "out of the blue, your heartbeat become unstable and then flatline... (no heartbeat). We had to do CPR, and everything we could to revived you back. You're gone for 15 mins.. and only come to after we use the electric thingy - ( i call it the heart jumpstart :) dont know what the name is - ni sofia yg cakap.. bukan nurse).

This has never happened before. we suspect that maybe your blood cannot tolerate the dye we injected. We've done the testing yesterday and it was ok. Maybe we overlooked something. We need to test your blood again to know what went wrong"

"When code blue was called, all the nurses at the icu need to be present because we need all the hand we could use"

So.. that's the story behind the ICU thing. A simple procedure turned bad.. nobody expected it even the doctors and the nurses. My hubby was gone for 15mins.. It was a terrible experience.. nothing could ever describe how i felt...

I thank Allah for giving my hubby a second chance...

@ ICU - after the Doc said that he's stable..

p/s - come to think of it, lega jugak tak dok dlm control room tu.. dont know how i'll react if I saw him 'leave' me.. even for 15 mins.. Segala yang terjadi ada hikmahnya.. I believe in this before.. I believe it even more now...

p/s - My hubby kata masa dia 'tido' dia mimpi dia dkt padang with lots of kids playing around.. and he thought he was sleeping for a few seconds only.. go figure..
